ATTN CRAFTERS & DIY: Check out Craftsy Crafting Daily Deals!

Craftsy is the fastest growing online community for Crafters - with over 500,000 monthly unique visitors, having just launched in May 2011. To Signup for Craftsy Crafting Daily Deals click on one of the deals, after signing up you get the full information about the deals offered. This rapid growth results from two primary offerings which Craftsy users love:
  1. Terrific online classes from amazing instructors for beginning, intermediate and advanced quilters, knitters, crocheters, sewists, jewelry makers, and other crafters.
  2. Astonishingly good deals on crafting supplies: organic yarn, lovely fabrics and fat quarters from top designers, high quality needles, etc...
Craftsy Block of the Month:
The Craftsy Block of the Month is a completely free, year-long online class instructed by expert quilter, Amy Gibson. There are 12 installments, each one posted on the first day of every month. The first 10 months/installments teach our students two new exciting blocks (brand new designs or funky spins on traditional blocks). The last two months are dedicated to finishing the quilt. At the end of the class, our students will have full-size and one-of-a-kind quilts. Like all of our classes, students can view it whenever it’s convenient for them, and can watch them however many times they’d like. It’s filmed in high-definition, and it’s fully interactive---students can ask Amy questions as they go.

*NEW* Craftsy Pattern Marketplace:
Newly launched, the Patterns section of Craftsy is the fastest growing online marketplace for crafting patterns. Because Craftsy does not charge designers any fees or commissions for listing or selling their patterns, creative indie designers are hurrying to the site to set up their pattern shops. There, well over half a million active Craftsy members browse the thousands upon thousands of patterns of all types, for all crafts. And since the designers aren’t getting charged or having to give Craftsy any commissions, the deals on patterns are amazing! Some are even free. It’s the perfect place to get inspiration and instructions at super low prices.

Create Custom Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Heart Pieces! Great activity for kids and adults!

Here's a great Do-It-Yourself (DIY) craft I learned from my clever 10-year old daughter! We created these crafts as a way to raise money for our church's youth trip to Rome in August of 2013! They sold like hotcakes and anywhere from $3-$5 each (depending on customization and creativity). This is a great activity you could do with your child and due to oven usage - requires adult supervision. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
2-Cups of All Purpose Flour
1-Cup of Salt
1-Cup of Warm Tap Water
Plastic or Metal Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter (We used old heart shaped candy containers)

Preparation:
Step-One: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Step-Two: Combine the sale and flour in a large bowl
Step-Three: Add water slowly into the mix while stirring
Step-Four: Continue stirring the mixture until it forms a doughy consistency
Step-Five: Knead dough for about 5-7 minutes
Step-Six: Flatten dough about 1-inch think on floured wooden cutting board
Step-Seven: Press cookie cutter firmly into dough and place shapes to the side on flat and dry surface
Step-Eight: Repeat until all the dough is used (makes approximately 12 pieces)

Baking:
When shapes are complete, place each piece onto an aluminum cookie sheet approximately 2" inches apart in 350 degrees and bake for 20-minutes. *Be sure the pieces are not too thick - otherwise it will not cook evenly. Once each piece is a golden brown it is ready! Remove and let cool for 5-minutes. Place immediately in refrigerator for 1-2 hours to harden (be sure to keep them nice and flat).

Decorating:
Acrylic Paint
Glitter
Beads
Tacky Glue
Craft Glue
Markers
*The great part about these pieces are their flexibility. Decorate as you wish, just be sure to cover the area with newspapers to prevent stains. Enjoy!
